green place

It's turning into Outing Week here. We've been out and about so much with the recent thaw it's felt so good to stretch our legs and feed our minds. Another favorite spot in Washington DC is the United States Botanic Gardens.
It's like walking into a warm, earthy hug  - perfect on a day when the cold is still nipping at your nose outside. "Mommy, this is like being back in Hawaii!" Well... close enough for here and now.
There's a desert plants area, medicinal plants area (my favorite!), and so on. But the tropical jungle room is a true oasis on a winter's day. How amazing to wipe sweat from your brow in February. ahhhhhhh.
It's full of fun things to see and touch and smell. And like everything out here on the National Mall, it's free. Thank you once again taxpayers!

The Botanical Gardens is my #1 favorite place in DC--humidity, the smell of dirt, GREEN in the winter--you can't beat it!

Would you believe we've never been! I'm not sure how that's happened but my friend Jenni and I are planning to take the kids next weekend when I'm up there. Do I get to see you that weekend?

lovely! Have you read Miss Rumphius (hmm .. is this the title .. about the Lupin Lady?) - she pays a visit to an indoor tropical garden in winter and it inspires her to travel the world! Not that Zach is lacking in that department :-) But its a lovely book. And those beautiful little rosebud lips! What a pretty wee thing that four month old is!

Love that first shot! The Botanical Gardens are on my long list of places I want to visit when we finally make it back to the DC area (still keeping my fingers crossed that will be in the near future...I'll e-mail you). So glad you had such a wonderful, sunny, and warm escape in the middle of winter!

one of these days we are going to run into you! we love the botanical gardens too. I love how huge it is, and how tropical it is in the winter time.

I also love the train exhibit in December--a couple of years ago, there were also fairy homes built entirely from plant parts--did you happen to see it?

You managed to find a bit of the tropics in February.
Clever girl!

I'd love to hear your thoughts on the transition from a family of three to four, how it is for you, for Zach, etc. If you ever feel like writing about it you can count on me to read it. :)
